The features listed below have been added to meet Surescripts 10.6 requirements and the Meaningful Use ONC 2014 Edition Test Scripts for 170.314(b)(3) Electronic Prescribing.

The Patient Information panel will display the patients name, image, birth date, age, gender and address to allow the user to easily identify that they are prescribing for the correct patient.

The Prescriber Information panel will display the provider's name, address and phone number to allow the user to easily identify they are sending the prescription from the correct provider.  

*Note: The prescriber that is displayed is pulled from the user's Active Provider selection.  To select the Active Provider, go to the SOAPware menu > Active Provider.

The allergies panel will display the list of allergies located in the patient's Summary Allergies field.

If desired, the user can collapse both the Patient/Provider Information panel and the Allergies/Eligibilty Information to maximize their view of Rx Manager.  Simply click the arrows located in the right corner of each panel to collapse/expand the view.  This panels will be reset after restarting SOAPware to the original, expanded view.

The patient's eligibility information will be displayed to the right of the Allergies panel.

A new Rx can be added to the patient's Rx Pad using the Add Rx dialog.  Simply type in the medication you wish to search for and hit the Enter key.  Locate and double-click on the medication you wish to insert.  The Rx will be added to the Rx Pad and the active SOAPnote Medications field.

The pharmacy can be selected using the Pharmacy drop-down menu.  In addition, a new pharmacy can be added using the (+) symbol.  The selected pharmacy can be set as the patient's preferred pharmacy by clicking the 'star' symbol (this will update the patient's preferred pharmacy in the demographics section).

The medication information includes:

  • Rx strength
  • SIG: dose, frequency and route
  • Rx dispense amount
  • Substitutions allowed or not allowed
  • Rx refill amount
  • Notes to pharmacy
  • Rx date written
  • Rx pharmacy submission

8. Formulary Information

The formulary information includes:

  • Formulary status
  • Co-pay details
  • Drug type
  • Formulary details (includes therapeutic alternatives)

*Note: Rx formulary and eligibility retrieval can be set to automatically run for all patients upon opening Rx Manager.  To turn this setting on, go to Tools > Options > Workflow > check the Auto Formulary and Eligibility Retrieval box.

9. View Interactions

Drug-drug and drug-allergy interactions can be viewed by clicking the View Interactions button.

Click the View Errors button to view any errors that are preventing the ePrescription from being processed.  Resolve the errors prior to submitting the medications.

To submit the selected medications, click the Submit button.  Using the drop-down menu, you may select to Print, Fax or give Samples rather than ePrescribe the medication.
